The Saarland Tumour Centre was founded in 1979 under the name “Homburg Tumour Centre”. At the instigation of the Saarland state government, the Saarland Cancer Centre was established in the same year. The Cancer Centre is a state-funded institution housed within the Saarland University Hospital complex and acts as the administrative headquarters of the Tumour Centre.
Institutions involved in the Tumour Centre include institutes and departments at the University Hospital as well as other hospitals in Saarland. The members of the Tumour Centre are the directors or heads of the various medical departments and institutes, and the physicians and scientists who provide medical care to cancer patients or who are involved in oncology research.
